St Catherine’s Hospice

In 2024 the Ernest Kleinwort Charitable Trust provided core funding for St Catherine’s Hospice in Pease Pottage, Crawley. The hospice provides specialist care for people facing the end of life, and their families. The hospice has expert teams who help people manage symptoms and they are also able to provide emotional support including counselling.

In the last year, the hospice supported more than 2,500 people in the local community and another 250 on the wards of their new hospice which opened in 2023. Those with a terminal diagnosis attend for outpatient appointments, exercise and education classes, one-to-one gym-based exercise sessions and counselling, helping them to live well and remain as independent as possible. In patients receive 24-hour specialist medical and clinical care, and staff and volunteers help to create precious moments which make a difference for those approaching the end of their lives.

“18 days before Dad died, two of your wonderful nurses wheeled Dad outside, made him a ‘Virgin Mary’ and we sat together enjoying the sunshine. Can’t thank you enough for this special time – I’ll treasure the memory forever.”

The funding will enable the hospice to continue their services into 2025, at a time when many hospices are facing financial crisis. The hospice has already had to reduce the number of beds available, make staff redundant and reduce the hours of their community services.
